Croftwood Estate Chardonnay 2008

Croftwood Estate Chardonnay 2008

This Australian Chardonnay may not be as “oakey” as its California cousins, and might even be a bit sweet compared to its European counterparts, but as someone who had grown tired of the overwhelming coal-charred-lemon impact of the garden variety Chardonnay, I was pleasantly surprised by the mellow and well rounded softness of this wine.

I got this bottle as a part of the 4-Seasons Wine club shipment, and it went well chilled with a light dinner of some baked fish and a rice & veggies medley.

This Chardonnay has a pleasantly soft nose, with bright and crisp floral tones. On the palate, it registers the mild sweetness of ripe melon and honey, followed by a tart lemon and just a bit of an aftertaste of oak and charred lemon rind.

This wine lists for $13 (plus shipping) at 4-Seasons and is also available from the WSJ Wine Club.
